What pests chew wires?

What's the likely culprit for a chewed aerial wire in my loft? I live in an old semi-rural cottage on the outskirts of Norwich, so I guess it could be a number of animals. I don't go into the loft much as it's difficult to access but I thought I'd have heard something up there and I haven't.

"It could be Rats, Mice or Squirrels.
Check the droppings you find:
Rice size - Mice
Raison size - Rats
Rounded off raison size often stuck together. - Squirrels.
I would advise getting a professional to check do not put poison in the loft before the species is confirmed."

"Most likely a shrew(s) they are small and can easily get in to Lofts and wall cavity’s. I recommend setting up some mice traps."

"Hi there, so rodents are capable of chewing through wires two of which are most commonly rats and squirrels (and not so commonly mice). All do so unknowingly which poses extreme danger to all occupants within a property by means of a house fire if their body happens to ignite amongst insulation or any other flammable materials.

I'd strongly advise contacting a professional to deal with the issue immediately."

"It could one of three, mice, rats or squirrels. Have you heard noises , if it’s at night rats or mice and daytime can be squirrels. Someone is going to have to get in there to check difficult to be without looking"

"In our experience it is usually mice or rats. If you hear noises in the loft it is most likely rats. They can also get in the cavity walls and under the house if you have a suspended floor."

"RATS are a good bet. They are notorious for the chewing of wires. Get a pest control technician and they should confirm this."
