"Upvc doors tend to swell in hot weather I think at some time yours may have what normally happens is some one comes along and adjusts the hinges to make gap and allow door to open and close BUT when cold weather arrives the door shrinks a bit which in turn makes gap around door slightly bigger hence ,cams, hooks or whatever your system as don't engage properly.
If its wood it is possibly swelling again makes locks difficult to engage"

"Do you have a wooden door if so it might be the weather because wooden doors have a tendency to swelling up in wet weather and chrink in hot weather when they dry out"

"Upvc doors can expand and shrink with different temperatures in the summer they tend to expand and winter they tend to shrink, a little bit of adjustment is needed to compensate and possibly what they call " toe and heel""

"It’s a frustratingly common winter headache. When the temperature drops, materials behave differently, and since a door relies on millimeter-perfect alignment to lock, even a tiny shift causes a struggle. Here are the most likely reasons your door is playing up:1. Thermal Contraction (The "Shrinking" Door)Most modern doors are uPVC or Composite. These materials are designed to expand and contract with the weather. The Issue: In cold weather, the door leaf (the moving part) can shrink slightly, or the frame can shift. If the "hooks" or "bolts" of your multi-point locking system no longer line up perfectly with the "keeps" (the metal slots on the frame), the handle will feel stiff or refuse to lift fully. The Sign: If you open the door and the lock works perfectly, but it struggles when the door is closed, it’s an alignment issue caused by the cold.2. Thickened LubricantIf you have an older lock, the internal grease can thicken or "gum up" in freezing temperatures. The Issue: Dust and debris mix with old grease over the years. When it gets cold, this mixture becomes more like wax than oil, making the internal springs and pins sluggish. The Fix: Use a PTFE-based lubricant or graphite powder. Avoid WD-40 "Multi-Use" (the classic blue and yellow can) for long-term lock health, as it can actually attract more gunk over time.3. Moisture and IceIf you have high humidity inside or driving rain outside, moisture can get into the cylinder or the mechanism. The Issue: Once that moisture freezes, it creates physical resistance inside the lock. The Sign: The key might be difficult to insert or won't turn at all.Quick Fixes & CostsSolutionDifficultyEstimated CostAdjusting the "Keeps"Easy (Screwdriver)£0Lubricating the MechanismEasy£5 – £10Toe and Heeling (Glass Adjustment)Medium (Pro recommended)£60 – £100Replacement GearboxHard£80 – £150What should you do right now?Check the "Strike Plates": Look at the metal plates on the frame. Do you see shiny scratch marks where the bolts are hitting the metal instead of sliding into the hole? You can often unscrew these and move them by a millimeter or two to compensate for the winter shift.Lift the Handle Firmly: With uPVC doors, ensure you are pulling the handle up as far as it goes before turning the key. Sometimes the cold makes the door sag just enough that it needs an extra "heave" to engage the hooks. The Hairdryer Trick: I"

"Depending on the door type, weather can cause doors to swell or require an adjustment. Locksmiths will be able to identify and support."
