Rodding eye vs inspection chamber

What is the difference between a rodding and an inspection chamber?

"Use an Inspection Chamber: For main junctions, where multiple pipes meet, and for deep systems (up to 1.2m or more).
Use a Rodding Eye: For shallow, straight, and short, or secondary runs, or where space for a larger chamber is unavailable.
Hope this helps"

"Good question 🙂

A rodding chamber is mainly there to allow access for drain rods so blockages can be cleared — it’s usually smaller and designed just for maintenance access.

An inspection chamber is larger and gives full access to the drainage system so it can be inspected, cleaned, or worked on properly, often where pipe directions change or multiple drains meet.

In simple terms, a rodding chamber is for clearing blockages, while an inspection chamber allows full inspection and maintenance of the drainage system."

"Rodding eye is just so you can rod a blocked drain f
Inspection chamber is where all you drains lead in to and you can maintain from there too"

"Rodding chamber: Small access point used only to insert rods and clear blockages. Limited space, not designed for full inspection.

Inspection chamber: Larger chamber that allows visual inspection, multiple pipe connections, CCTV access, and easier maintenance."

"A writing eye is normally an access point on a section of pipework, i.e. waste pipework to gain access to drainage
This can be used for using rods to clear blockages, but you can't actually see inside the pipework

Inspection chamber, i.e. manhole is more of an open space where you can see different parts of drainage going into the waste water flow outlet"

"A rodding chamber is basically a small access point in a drain where you can push rods through to clear a blockage. It’s simple, shallow, and just there for maintenance — you can’t really see much inside it.

An inspection chamber is bigger. It lets you actually look into the drainage system, see the pipe connections, and check what’s going on below ground. It’s still not big enough to climb into (that would be a manhole), but it gives much better access than a rodding chamber."
