Replace radiator

I want to replace a horizontal radiator (I think it is 600×1200 Type 11 → ~4,000 BTU) with a vertical double radiator (probably Urban Vertical Radiator – Anthracite – Double Panel – 1800 × 532 m BTU around 6,000).

I had an extension build which is open to the kitchen and it is too cold in winter (total cubic meters 40 for kitchen plus 20 for extension).

The house is three storeys and the upper floors are already too hot. Modern Ultracom Condensing Boiler.

Is this a viable plan?

"That will be fine as there is one there to replace it will be ok . New radiators let out a lot more heat. Hope this answers your questions."

"Yes, a larger vertical double radiator will give you more output and should help in that space.
That said, with a 3-storey house and upstairs already too warm, it sounds like the system needs balancing. I’d upgrade the radiator but also get the system balanced — that usually solves the cold downstairs issue."

"Yes, upgrading to the vertical double radiator with a higher BTU output is definitely a viable option, especially with the kitchen and extension being open plan and feeling cold in winter. The increased output should help improve the overall warmth in that space.

However, as the upper floors are already too hot, it may also indicate the system needs balancing to distribute heat more evenly.

Your boiler should be capable of handling the additional radiator, but it would be best to assess the room properly to ensure the new radiator is sized correctly and positioned effectively."
