Noisy pipe when toilet flushed

Why do my pipes make noise when the toilet is flushed? Every time someone flushes the toilet, there’s a banging or rattling noise from the pipes. What is likely to be the problem and how urgent is it?

"The washer in the inlet or filling valve is damaged. New one is required."

"Most of the time a noisy pipe when the toilet is flushed is caused by things like water pressure changes or loose pipework. On the other hand if you hear banging, vibrating, whistling, or a loud rushing sound that could be a worn fill/ball valve in the cistern, pipes not properly clipped in place, or again high water pressure."

"This is called water hammer. Replace the ballvalve on the toilet as that is a normally the problem. I'm guessing when you flush the toilet and the cistern refills with water the noise starts to happen as the tank is almost full of water and the ballvalve is beginning to shut off. Water hammer can also be caused by a faulty stopcock or a faulty tap valve. But my money is on the toilets ballvalve."

"It's called water hammer. If you have any valve under your cistern on the toilet turn it down a bit if not then turn down the the main stop tap for the time being but you could do with a new ball valve or washer inside the old one"

"We understand you're experiencing some noise when flushing the toilet. It sounds like there might be an issue with the water flow mechanism. A common cause for such sounds is a malfunctioning inlet valve. Addressing this promptly can help restore quiet operation to your bathroom. We recommend having a professional inspect the internal components of the toilet."

"When the valve in the toilet, especially the filling valve, closes quickly, the water stream suddenly stops. This causes a pressure wave that hits the pipes, causing knocking or rattling. As for whether it is a serious fault, it suggests to deal with it as soon as possible.

"When you flush the toilet the diaphragm inthe ball valve is vibrating which this is causing the noise to travel through the pipe work You need to to change the ballvalve"

"The west pipe of the toilet needs to be connected with the vent pipe, or you have to install an admittance valve."

"When pipes make a banging or rattling noise during a toilet flush, it’s usually down to water pressure or movement in the pipework rather than the toilet itself.

The most common causes are:
• Loose pipework that moves when the toilet refills
• A failing fill valve (ball valve) shutting off too quickly
• High water pressure causing a mild form of water hammer
• Worn internal components inside the cistern

In most cases this isn’t an emergency, but it’s something worth addressing as repeated movement and pressure can eventually lead to leaks or damage to joints."
