New Build Bathroom Tiling

We're moving into a new build property where we didn't get to chose the bathroom tiles - we're really not keen on the choice so are looking to change them. Is this something that can be done in a new build and if so how much would it cost roughly?

"Cheapest option would be to tile on top of existing tiles, if your house is a new build it is probably dot a dabbed with plasterboard, it may also have stud walls with plasterboard. It is very difficult to remove tiles from plasterboards. We would generally remove plasterboard with the tiles and start again, by re boarding walls then fit your new tiles. A little bit more expensive but better than tiling on top of existing tiles."

"HI
yes of course this can be done and we would roughly charge around £450 labour & £750 for materials all depending on the tile cost

"Hi, Yes the tiles can be changed. Regarding cost it depends on how big an area, what the surface is behind the tiles, for example if it is plasterboard wall, there is a good chance that the plasterboard will be damaged when removing the original tiles. Often with new builds there is no preparation to the wall surface which would protect the plasterboard."

"Yes can certainly be done. New builds bathrooms tend to be tiled straight on to plasterboard. Price will depend on wether or not the plasterboard would need to be replaced and also the sort of tiles you would like to be installed."

"Yes any tiles can be changed, the problem with new build houses is that they are mostly timber framed so all walls will likely be plasterboard.

Plasterboard and tile adhesive work brilliant so you’re more than likely going to struggle to get the tiles off without damaging the plasterboard.

So a tiler will probably either just charge you for the work as normal and hope not to damage everything or add the price of the boards into his quote."

"Yes it can be rectified to pick up something more aesthetic for yourselves. For it to be done properly I would estimate to be about £1200-£1500 in labour depending on size"
