Pump or Circulation Issues
If your boiler has a circulating pump, it can make a humming or vibrating noise if it’s stuck, worn out, or working too hard.
Check: Feel the pipes—if they are hot and vibrating, it could be the pump.
Kettling (Limescale Build-Up)
In areas with hard water, limescale can build up in the heat exchanger, causing a loud humming or banging noise as water boils unevenly.
Warning: This can reduce efficiency and damage your boiler over time.
Air in the System
Trapped air in radiators or pipes can create vibrations or humming.
Fix: Bleed your radiators to release trapped air.
Electrical or Magnetic Hum
Sometimes the transformer or electrical components can produce a low humming noise, especially in older boilers.
Check: If it’s constant and loud, this could indicate a failing component.
Water Pressure Issues
Too high or fluctuating water pressure can make the system vibrate and hum.
Check: Your boiler pressure gauge should usually be around 1–1.5 bar when cold."
