Lift up to lock door handles

I have a door handle that you need to lift up before you can lock it but it's getting harder and harder to do. If I take the handle off, is likely I can fix it?

"Hi, try to see with the door open if the mechanism works properly without any resistance when you lift up the handle. If works smoothly move your attention to the hinges or the door keepers on the frame."

"The mechanism might need a service or greasing up. Or the mechanism needs replacing itself. Not always an option say job if not trained locksmith."

"no i doubt it
it may be your door needs to be adjusted as overtime they tend to drop a little so affecting the locking system"

"It is unlikely that the handle is the issue . Probably door alignment needs adjusting or possibly a gearbox issue .How old is the door and where are you based ? ."

"When you lift up the handle is there a grinding noise as well?
The gearbox is about to go. When this does you wont be able to open or close the door.
Call a locksmith now so that the cost will only be for the gearbox. If you leave it until you cant open or close the door it will coat more as the door will need to be opened with tools only a lockamith has and also the handles may also be broken and they will need new handles and these are getting expensive."

"Unlikely. Your door may need adjusting. A local locksmith will be able to help
