What's the best way to keep bees out of my chimney? Last year we had lots of problems.

"The best way to prevent Bees taking up residency within a chimney stack is to have a tradesman (or woman) secure any top openings with a durable wire mesh and to fill any gaps with the materials they feel its the requirement."

"Hello Joyce. The best way to prevent this is to ensure entry points are all closed. Cement gaps repointed, lead flushing tight to tiles and stacks closed, with small grade mess. There maybe a nest present and they may return to this. There are specialist companies that remove Bees nests.
Kind regards Richard"

"Both answers that you have are correct but you may need to know what type of Bee is coursing the problem, there are Masonry or Mason bees that will not bother you and just because you had them last year does not mean they will be back ."

"If they are living in the chimney then they the colony and honeycomb will need to be removed. If you simply cover the hole they are using, you will trap in thousands of bees including the queen and they will eventually die of starvation or will head down the chimney looking for a new way out. If the colony dies, the honey will leak out as its not being cared for causing loads of insects to invade making the problem you have much worse.
A survey will need to be carried out to establish scaffolding requirements to get access to the chimney. Do you wish to go ahead and book a survey or do you wish yo leave the bees living in the chimney?"
