Is sold or engineered wood flooring better?

Which is generally more hard-wearing, solid wood flooring or engineered wood flooring?

"It all depends on the wood you choose and how it is being used throughout the years
Solid oak is harder wood and more expensive then soft wood. Engineered wood can also last a good number of years but depends on the thickness because at some point in the floors life it can be sanded down and to finish as required for example colour dye and varnish or coloured varnish."
