How to clean a bathroom extractor fan

Our extractor fan is quite dusty and I'm not sure the best way to clean it without risking damage to it. Should I leave it to an electrician?

"In most cases, you do not need an electrician to clean a bathroom extractor fan. A careful homeowner can usually remove surface dust safely, provided they take a few precautions.
How to clean it safely?
1. Turn off the power
Switch off the fan at the isolator switch (often outside the bathroom) or turn off the relevant circuit at the consumer unit.
Don't rely solely on the wall light switch.
2. Remove the cover
Most bathroom fan covers either clip off or are held by a couple of screws.
Check the manufacturer's instructions if you're unsure.
3. Clean the cover
Wash the cover in warm soapy water and dry it thoroughly.
4. Remove dust from the fan
Use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to remove loose dust.
A soft paintbrush or microfiber cloth works well for stubborn dust.
Be gentle around the fan blades and motor housing.
5. Avoid liquids inside the fan
Do not spray cleaning products directly into the motor or electrical parts.
Keep water well away from the fan assembly.
6. Reassemble
Refit the cover securely.
Restore power and check the fan runs normally.

- When to call an electrician
It may be worth getting an electrician involved if:
The fan is noisy, vibrating, or rattling excessively.
It isn't extracting moisture effectively even after cleaning.
You notice damaged wiring, scorch marks, or signs of overheating.
The fan is difficult to access (for example, high ceilings or loft-mounted units).
The cover cannot be removed without disturbing wiring."
