How thick should concrete be for a driveway?

We're having a new concrete driveway laid. The tradesmen we have hired mentioned different thicknesses depending on vehicle weight. What's the minimum depth that we can get away with to save money?

"for a safe thickness would be 4 inch or 100mm, this would accommodate all vehicles"

"You can only get away with less thickness if you put re bar in ,I wouldn’t recommend it going on less than four inches probably a bit more, honestly your best paying for a decent thickness it will only cost you more in the long run , but I think the installer should know not to put it any less than recommended!
I’d keep an eye on the thickness don’t save money now or you’ll pay more later!
Good luck 👍"

"To be really safe i would say 100mm at least then I would even put some steel reinforcement in it.

Your paying to have a new driveway, so it needs to be done right."

"Cutting corners to save money on a driveway installation especially when installing concrete as it has a tendency to crack under frequent use and also suffers from ground movement. My advise would be never accept anything less than 100mm we always prefer to install 150mm as a minimum depth with expansion joints and reinforcing if your budget would allow ."

"Good Morning,
Here is the answer to your question, the Minimum is 4 Inches (100mm) with a sub base of 100mm - 150mm (4-6 inches).

We install our concrete driveways at 125mm (5 inches) that’s our rule of thumb this covers small - medium sized vehicles, but the highways recommend minimum depth for a concrete driveways is 4 inches and 3 inches for a path or patio."

"Hello have they explained that for strength, you best lay reinforcing mess in the concrete pour me myself would put a depth of 5/6 inches , 2, inches first then lay 4,inches of concrete for your final layer, you can have the mix made up with Fibres, in the mix for added strength, All goes on what you can afford, please be carefull allow for Subbase, before concreting,"

"Depending on the weight of your vehicle 5 inches is just about the bare minimum you can lay"
