How much cement do I need for a patio?

I'm laying a patio with 600x600 slabs over a mortar bed. How do I calculate how much sand and cement I need for a roughly 20 square metre area?

"From experience if you get fifteen bags you won’t be far wrong especially if you use a 50mm bed"

"How Carol, if the mortar bed is 50mm depth. This is the equivalent to 1.6 tonne of sharp sand. If you use a 5:1 ratio of sand and cement then you will need 8 bags of 25kg cement. All the best."

"Maximum 2” use string lines, put hardcore in the low spots
and compact, use S B R mixed with cement to make a smooth paste and paint the underside liberally
I would recommend using a good reputable company to do it as it will be done professionally and save money in the long term,
Good luck 👍"

"For a 20m² patio using 600x600 slabs on a mortar bed, you can work it out fairly simply.

A typical full bed for slabs is around 30–40mm thick.
So for 20m², you’ll need roughly:

* 0.6–0.8 cubic metres of mortar in total

Using a standard 5:1 mix (sharp sand : cement):

Materials needed:

* Sharp sand: approx 0.5–0.65 m³
* Cement: approx 6–8 bags (25kg bags)

Rule of thumb:

* About 1 bulk bag of sharp sand
* Around 6–8 bags of cement

A couple of tips:

* Always allow a bit extra for waste and uneven ground
* Make sure you’re laying on a consistent full bed (not dot and dab)
* If the ground isn’t perfectly level, you may need slightly more mortar

"For a roughly twenty square meter area you will need at least two tons of sharp sand. One ton of sharp sand cover ten square meters with with two inches of sand which is the amount of mortar needed under the slabs. You will also need about four bags of cement to mix one ton of sharp sand."

"10 square metre is approximately 0.75 T of sand and five bags of cement if laying it on a 30 - 40mm bed of sand and cement.
20 square metre will be 1.5 T and ten bags of cement."

"At a cement bed average of 100-150mm
Underneath the slab
1 ton or bulk bag and 3 cement at a mix ratio of 5:1 would be sufficient"
