How many layers of felt go on a flat roof
I've had a couple of quotes and I'm getting mixed messages from roofers. One says I only need two layers, another says I need three? Why am I getting different advice? Isn't there a standard that is used?

Traditionally, a three-layer built-up torch-on felt system (consisting of a vapour control layer, underlay, and capsheet) is the industry standard in the UK and offers long-term durability — typically 20–30 years when installed correctly.
Some roofers may offer a two-layer system on smaller garages or outbuildings to reduce cost, but it won’t last as long or provide the same level of waterproofing. Reputable manufacturers like Icopal or Axter still recommend three layers for a fully compliant and warrantied installation.

"Always a 3 layer system on a Flat roof unless it’s a shed roof then it’s not as important"
