"The cost of fitting a new expansion tank, including draining down the system, replacing the tank, refilling it with water, and testing the system, can vary widely based on several factors:

Size and Type of Tank: The cost can depend on the size and type of expansion tank required for your system. Different systems might need different tanks, and larger tanks could be more expensive.

Labor Costs: The labor charges vary based on the plumber or technician's hourly rate and the complexity of the job. Draining, replacing, and refilling the system involves skilled labor.

Additional Materials: Any additional materials needed for the installation, such as fittings, pipes, or valves, can contribute to the overall cost.

System Complexity: If the system is complex or challenging to access, it might require more labor and time, impacting the overall cost.

Considering these factors, the cost for fitting a new expansion tank could range from a few hundred to over a thousand dollars or pounds, depending on your location, the specifics of your system, and the rates of the plumbing professional performing the job.

For a more accurate estimate, it's recommended to obtain quotes from local plumbers or heating engineers. They can assess your system, determine the appropriate tank needed, and provide a more precise cost estimate based on the specifics of your situation."

"Hi - assuming it's reasonably accessible this should cost around £130 for a plumber to do. Heating engineer might cost a little more and that's to be expected in my opinion. You would not need to drain down the whole system just a case of shutting off the water supply and hoovering out the tank contents. The loss of water would be minimal so not essential to add chemical corrosion inhibitor unless you suspect the system is lacking this. Tank with all accessories is about £50. For me to want to agree to do it I would ask £80. Others might do it for less. Total then likely to be around £130. That would not include disposing of the old tank.

Hope that helps."
