Hole in roof valley lead

While painting our house, we've noticed there's a hole in the lead flashing on the valley of the roof. Can it be patched or does it need taking out and replacing?

"Hello
If it’s very old and perished it’s best renewed, If newer lead valley that’s holed you can snip out the holed area and repair, But this has to be the full width of the valley"

"The only proper way to repair the hole in the existing lead is by lead solder or welding but this is a specialist job . You could also cut the lead where the hole is and put a patch over or under the cut."

"Yes fixed easily with led. Don't need to replace the valley just the section where the hole is by cutting and removing the section of damaged lead and tucking a new piece under the old lead at the top of the repair by 6 inches and over lapping the bottom of the removed section by 6 inch. A few tiles or slates will have to be removed in the process then put back."

"It can be patched over depending on the size of the hole. Patch repair will not last as long as a full fit but will hold the rain out for a few years. Others may say different :)"
