"The paint is likely failing due to a contaminated, worn, or non-porous surface. Here’s what to do:

1. **Strip** all old paint back to bare material
2. **Clean** thoroughly — degrease with sugar soap
3. **Sand** to create a key for adhesion
4. **Prime** with the correct primer for your doorstep material (concrete, stone, wood, etc.)
5. **Apply** a floor-specific paint designed for high-traffic areas

The primer step is the most commonly skipped and usually the reason paint won’t bond."

"Presuming it's wooden, you may need to treat it first with some sort of outdoor primer"

"Strip it right back to bare, give it a good clean with sugar soap, let it dry out fully, then prime it before you put any paint on. Nine times out of ten that's all it need.
paint won't stick to anything that hasn't been prepped properly. If you're sick of the hassle, you could always cover it over with tiles or a bit of timber decking"

"There are a number of different avenues to take with this , but it all depends on the material of the step itself.
If its concrete i would start gently at first with 100% acetone and try a test patch, leave this on for 20-30 minutes and then use a wire brush to scrub and lift away the paint before rinsing.
If this doesn't work then look at using a chemical paint stripper such as paint panther . Follow the instructions closely and ensure.you are wearing appropriate PPE when you are doing it as co tact woth the skin can cause chemical burns"

You can install tiles on top of it or you can also install decking wood on top if its back door stairs"

"Make sure you have primed the area before you paint this will help the paint adhere to the doorstep also give it a good sand before you prime it"

"Multiple options, take it back to basics and remove all old paint from it taking it back to its original structure then go from there. Alternatively could always look at replacing it with something new"

"I would remove all loose/flaking paint first by sanding or using a paint stripper, then clean and degrease the doorstep thoroughly. After that, apply a good exterior masonry/concrete primer and repaint it with a high-quality exterior floor or masonry paint. If the surface is badly worn or damp, I’d also check for moisture issues before repainting, otherwise the paint will continue to peel."
