Floor strength in upper floor flats

I live in a upper floor flat and am worried the floor isn't strong enough to keep a washing machine in the flat. How can I tell its OK?

"if you are not sure, in any case I would open up the floor and examine, possibly reinforce if necessary"

"I wouldn’t worry at all. Bellow your floor is screed or concrete , below that structural … if it was the bad structural was failing you would know about it . I would recommend putting a piece of Lino or carpet between the floor and washer to stop vibrations being heard downstairs"

"First thing would be to check how stable the floor actually is you can check with the flat maintenance if it is fine to get a washing machine there and also you can try get a washing machine which isn't too heavy"

"Check to see if the floor is strong so you can step on it and if it is making noise and is feeling wobbly then it won't be strong enough"

"Hi all floors would be strong enough to hold the weight of appliances"

"Hi,
To have peace of mind i would lift the flooring up around the area to check
the integrity of the joists and flooring. If the floor is rattling it could just be a case of
re-fixing the floor boards back to the joists as they may have come loose and that would be the first thing to check."

"You would need to look at the joists running under your floor ; they should be 9”x2” in dimension . Often there are 2 side by side . If you still have doubts contact a reputable builder to carry out this check . Regards , Andrew"

"There would have to be a serious amount of rot caused by damp over many years for a washing machine to fall through a floor, in this case the flat would be unsafe to live in. A washing machine weighs about the same as an adult. So if it’s ok for you a washing machine will be fine 👍"

"Yf you live in a modern flat your floor should be concrete.
Same of the old buildings have wood floors but they will be stronger enough to support the washing"

"well, I think you are not afraid to walk in that place, I think the washing machine will definitely not fall"
