"Yes . Specially sometimes on the chimney wall ,when hit and Air pass through the stones wall or bricks ..
If its open areas won't affect it .in my opinion and what I have seen"

"Over long periods of time, Air pollution will cause a build up of carbon deposits that will stick to stone work which will cause soiling.
So If not cleaned regularly, damage will occur eventually."

"Yes,
Softer more and more calcium rich stones are particularly vulnerable to acidic pollutants, nitrogen, carbon and sulphur oxides famously attack in this way.

The petrochemical exhausts in our busiest traffic areas are the worst culprits. Therefore you will see many monuments and important buildings being affected in cities.

"Many types of pollution can alter the appearance or discolour stone work , most common.is pollution from road traffic fumes and algae or moss from North facing ,"
