Do you need planning permission to drop a kerb for a driveway?

We want to add a driveway to the front of the house but we'd need to drop the kerb. Do we need council permission for this and how long does it usually take?

"Hi, yes you would need planning for this. I would say around a couple of weeks and if other neibours have it you can almost guarantee you will get approved. Thanks"
