How to clean a BBQ grill grate?

I've got stainless steel racks on my BBQ that need a good clean. Will a metal brush be ok to use on them or will this damage them?

"The metal brush is too strong. It would most likely damage the raccks and they would eventually rust."

"Remove cooled grates from the grill. Put them in a garbage bag and add 2 cups of vinegar and 1 cup of baking soda. Close the bag and let the solution soak for 8 hours or overnight. Then, rinse the grates and scrub off any remaining food bits using a ball of foil or a scrubby sponge."

"1. Choose the Right Brush: Use a brush with stainless steel bristles or brass bristles. Avoid using brushes with steel bristles that are not stainless, as they can leave behind rust particles.
2. Direction of Scrubbing: When scrubbing, go with the grain of the stainless steel if there’s a visible grain pattern. This can help prevent scratching.
3. Avoid Excessive Pressure: While stainless steel is resistant to scratching, applying excessive pressure or using abrasive materials can still cause damage. Use a moderate amount of pressure when scrubbing.
4. Rinse Thoroughly: After cleaning, rinse the stainless steel racks thoroughly with water to remove any cleaning residue and prevent potential chemical reactions with leftover cleaning agents.
5. Regular Maintenance: To prevent heavy buildup and the need for vigorous scrubbing, clean your BBQ racks regularly after each use. This will make maintenance easier and extend the life of the stainless steel."

"It will be fine as long as there is no non stick enamel on them"

"You're better off using a suitable cleaning product and soaking overnight before going in with a metal brush, the bristles are likely to fall off the brush and remain on the grill which could end up on your food and be hazardous to health.
Try a cleaning paste or make your own (Bicarb soda and white vinegar) to soak the grills and you'll be able to clean it with a brillo pad"

"It will be rough with metal brushes. Use detergent, if the effect is minimal, clean with a soft wire brush!"
