"If you know the parts you want to install, it's important to first check the manufacturer's specifications for the tap or mixer to confirm the required spacing.

In traditional installations, bath taps are typically set at 180 mm centers (the distance between the hot and cold tap holes). Wash hand basins tend to be more flexible, as most modern basin mixer taps use flexible tails for connection, making the pipe spacing less critical."

"With baths it's always 180mm. With basins it varies a bit but usually around 150-200mm."

"150 to 175mm for bath and basins can vary and dont really matter as taps not sold as a singular unit like a bath tap"

"If you're referring to the center-to-center distance between the hot and cold water supply outlets, the common standards are:
Wash hand basin: 180 mm (7 inches) center-to-center is the most common spacing for wall-mounted supplies.
Bath tub: 180 mm (7 inches) center-to-center is also the standard spacing for exposed bath/shower mixer valves in many countries.
However, this can vary depending on the type of tap or mixer:
Fixture
Typical hot-to-cold outlet spacing
Wash hand basin (pillar taps)
Usually determined by the basin tap holes (often 180 mm or manufacturer-specific)
Wash hand basin (single mixer)
One central supply connection to the tap; hot and cold flexibles connect underneath
Bath (exposed mixer)
180 mm centers (most common)
Bath (deck-mounted taps)
Depends on the bath's tap hole spacing and tap manufacturer
If you're plumbing a new installation in the UK, it's also common practice to position:
Hot on the left
Cold on the right"

"Bath 180 centres
Basin 200 centres but can vary that how we do it"

"it should be 150mm for centre of hot and cold outlets as the tap mixer or shower mixer on the market are almost all made in this size..

for basin, it is up to you. but you could keep them at leat 100mm away in order to do the installation or maintenance job easier."

"For baths, tap holes are generally spaced at 180 mm (center to center). For wash hand basins, spacing varies widely (typically 100 mm to 200 mm"

"Bath: usually 180 mm centres for standard deck-mounted bath taps or bath mixer, but check the tap.
Basin: often around 200 mm centres for two separate taps, but can vary. For mixer taps with flexi tails, the pipe centres are not critical; keep the supplies accessible and within reach, commonly 150–200 mm apart.

Best practice is to measure the actual tap or sanitaryware before first fixing. Do not tile or box in pipework based only on a “standard” measurement unless the tap or basin specification has been confirmed."
