Is it illegal to put spikes on top of my fence?

Can I get into trouble for putting spikes on top of our garden fence? We're plagued by cats and squirrels and would like to deter if not stop them.

"Hi Karen
If its a low fence it can be dangerous but if its a 6ft fence then yes you can. Hope that helps."

"No Karen, it's not illegal to spike the top of your fence, as long as your fence is high enough so children can't reach the spikes then you'll be fine. Get polycarbonate spikes as they don't have any sharp bits."

"You are allowed to fit bird proofing spikes which ado not present a significant risk yo humans."

"No lots of people do this, it's probably best to let your neighbours but as long as they're a reasonable length and not particularly sharp, you'll be okay"

"The spikes cannot be no longer than a 5 mm as cats have the right to roam unlike a K9"
