Mouse trap failure

I have a mouse visiting the kitchen but no trap seems to catch it. What am I doing wrong?

"The mice could be trap shy, have you tried putting the traps down without setting them with a food source in, Once they get used to the trap by taking the food source then set the traps, Also try placing the traps along runs typically along the skirting as rodents tend to use walls and skirtings as a natural safety barrier."

"Mouse traps are not the most effective way of dealing with mice. They can become trap shy very quickly, the same can be said for glue boards, however, if that's all you have and you don't want to call a professional pest control technician the best advice I can give you is
1. Place the trap in an ambush position I.e. around the corner so the mouse must go over it to cross.
2. Dont fill the bait well up to the top. Place chocolate or Aniseed smelling food product into the well so that the mouse has to get right up onto the trap in order to feed.
3. Always place the kill end of the trap against an edge as mice usually use they edges of the room to move around.
Hope this helps. Happy hunting"
