How to tighten a loose tap

The cold tap in our kitchen has a lot of play in it and wobbles when you turn it. Is this something I can fix myself by tightening underneath the sink or does it need a plumber?

"Can usually be tightened from the underside of the sink. There are various styles of locking systems. Some require a mono block, tap spanner or some have a threaded washer that you screw to another washer to tighten it."

"There is a plate on the back under the sink. Most of the time looks like a horse shoe shape .
If you follow the hoses up to the bottom of the tap you will see it. You ca use an adjustable wrench or a dedicated monoblock spanner."

"Can be done yourself. You'll need a set of box/tap spanners.

There's a bolt underneath with a little nut on it. Tighten that by turning it clockwise whilst holding the tap steady."

"If the access to the tap isn't a problem you may be able to get to it yourself.
I am a plumber and some taps are relatively easy to get at and some can be quite difficult. It helps to have the correct tools like a tap spanner or long socket"

"This could be fixed by yourself often its a winding bolt or two and can be turned with a plastic key if someone were to charge for it maybe £20 as its more the call out than the work but it could also be old and damaged and may need a whole new bracket underneath or even whole tap and bracket if the bracket has rusted or corroded to the tap itself. If you get a tap new fitting is between £40-60"

"Joyce

It can usually be tightened from underneath tho you may need a tap spanner depending on the size of the nut and of course whether there is sufficient space to get in whatever spanner you try

It may also depend on whether there is any corrosion beneath the tap or not."
