"Sounds more a lock problem than a handle problem… could start with the handle first and see"

"Either the handles are not spring loaded putting them back into position, or your mechanism gearbox is worn (common issue with loose handles)

"Handles need to be tighten as the spindle is not been properly lifted up to engage the locking mechanism."

"Hi, I am assuming your door has a multi point lock that requires you to lift the handle to lock the door. If this is the case then it it highly likely your locking mechanism has a broken component inside. Best thing is to remove the lock and have a look, identify the locking mechanism at the same time.
Good luck"

"If the handle on the outside is a pad then they are an oval shape and are shorter in length so you have less leverage when lifting the handle up. It may be possible to change the handles to lever outside rather then pad."
