Driveway gate security cameras

Can I add security cameras to a driveway gate? Would I need permission for this since it’s added to the edge of my property or is it okay to go ahead and add them in place?

If there is electric at the gate then this is an easy task. 
if you have automatic gates then you will definitely have power already there. 

You could add an intercom that has a built-in camera or add cameras along your driveway pointing at the gate.

I have placed cameras a mile away from the recorder and no cabling required from the gate to the house. all is needed is electricity. 

The position of the camera is vital. it must look into over peolples property. a qualified security CCTV installer is your best option to consult. They will be able to advice you on the correct camera and placement. there is also options for Privacy Masking if required, that way you wont be able to view any area deemed intrusive.

There are a number of considerations you need to think about:

1] Whether your existing system will be compatible with the cameras?
2] How you are going to power them up, if you have no power at the gate you will need to run cable
3] Distances from gate to DVR point
4] If your recording events on your own property you will be fine, if the cameras are facing onto a public footpath/highway and recording events then this is a different matter.,
