Complaint of rats from neighbour

Question

Neighbours have complained that my keeping of chickens is attracting rats. I'm not convinced it's true but want to keep them happy. What's best to do?

Not a lot you can do. 
For a start, keeping chickens doesn't cause rats, but if they're in the vicinity, a chance of easy food will encourage them.
Secondly, rats on the surface is usually related to a sewer issue, so that would need to be investigated. 
Your only legal obligation is to ensure you are not the cause of a public health issue so just make sure the rats aren't housed within your premises I.e. have burrowed underground in your garden. Rats will travel quite far for a food or water source, so if they are not living in your garden there's nothing anyone can do to you.

This is a possibility that this could be causing a rat issue due to chicken feed being on or around the chickens, you could change the environment of the chicken house by lifting the house off the floor slightly incase you have any rat issues, the rats would less likely have somewhere to harbourage, have a check also for burrows or holes and this would be a good indication that you have rat issues around your chicken area.

Your neighbours are probably right I am a pest controller and allotment holder if you don't take precautions and keep feed and water inside and be observant rats are inevitable it's an easy meal. Take precautions with a bait box and leave no feed what's so ever around and keeping the place clean is a must

Its quite hard discussion on one part is true your chickens need food for feeding however if you keep your chickens area nice and tidy with their food shoudnt be a problem . You can advice your neighbours to proof the areas where rats going into usually hidden places gaps etc in professional opinion as pest controller  every household got rights to have any kinds of pets or animals as long as they keeping good housekeepeing arround them .

Have a very good look around and see if there are any holes that look like burrows
if so you need a Pest Controller to put down bait to get rid of the rats
