Bathroom fan stays on when the light is off

Question

New extractor fan went in with the bathroom a few weeks ago and it carries on running for ages after we turn the light off. Is that just how they work or is something wrong here?

They’ve an overrun timer that continues for a set time once the light is switched off to reduce the amount of condensation etc for the room

Yes it is possibly on a timer , in order to confirm this I would need more information, did your old fan run on afterwards?

Theoretically this is a extractor with a timed over run. The idea behind this is that the fan continues to remove moisture from the air after you leave the room as just because you have left doesnt mean the moisture in the air has. Give the room 10-15 minutes after turning off the light and check to see if the fan is still running, it should have turned itself off by then.

It all depends on what kind of fan was installed, if its a timer fan then you may just need to adjust the length of time you want the fan to run on for after light has been turned off, if you have a humidity fan installed then it will turn off once the humidity level drops below humidity setting.

The extractor fan has a timer on usually about 10 to 15 minutes .. this can be adjusted inside fan .. or just disconnect permanent live and use switched live ( which comes on when light is turned on and then off again when light is turned off )

It’s sound like the fan is model with a timer, so it still runs once the lights are turn off. It should be possible to adjust the time, it stays on.
If possible contact the contractor who installed it for you and ask them to adjust the time.

It's called an over run timer-Timer fan.
It's a feature that is designed to extract excess humidity and annoying smells once you've left the room.
It is adjustable normally via a small plastic screw behind the cover, remember to isolate the fan 1st or call a qualified Electrician.
