How Much Does a Carpenter Cost?
The average daily rate of a carpenter is around £225, and the average hourly rate is between £20 to £50. However, these rates can change due to a few factors.
Firstly, your location affects the overall cost of a joiner. For example, if you lived in Reading, you’d pay around £220 a day for a carpenter, but in Newcastle, you’d pay £170 per day. It tends to cost more in the South for tradespeople than in the North.
It also depends on the job's size, type and complexity. If you need a door hung, it may only cost you £70, but if you need a new staircase fitted, it may cost you over £2000.

When looking for a carpenter and joiner, you want to hire a competent, trustworthy tradesperson, and you need to know what to look for.
Let’s start with qualifications. To become a joiner, various diplomas can be completed from Level 1 to Level 3, including:

2. Site Carpentry
3. Bench Joinery
4. Shopfitting Joinery
5. Wood Machining for Joinery Manufacture
Instead of qualifications, they may have trained on the job and completed an apprenticeship – a lot of joiners and carpenters qualify this way, so it’s worth checking.
Another sign of a good joiner is accreditation, such as the Institute of Carpenters or the British Woodworking Federation. To become members, there is a vetting process and a code of conduct they have to adhere to.
