A bricklayer charges around £200-£300 per day and about £30 to £60 per hour, but this cost is an estimate and can be affected by several things.
If you live in the South, you can expect to pay more for a bricklayer than in the North, so the location can also affect the overall costs.
Finally, who you hire will also impact labour costs. Larger bricklaying companies usually charge more than an individual sole trader.

When hiring a bricklayer, you want someone who is competent and who you can trust. You can look for a few things when choosing a bricklayer to ensure reliability.
Although bricklayers do not need qualifications, people can earn a level 2 or level 3 diploma in bricklaying. Many bricklayers will complete an apprenticeship, gaining knowledge and experience on-the-job. Bricklaying accreditation boards are also a sign of a good bricklayer.
For example, The Association of Brickwork Contractors or Bricklayers Guild members must meet certain requirements to become associates.
Find a bricklayer
The number of bricks laid in a day depends on the job's complexity and whether they have help from a labourer. It can be as many as 500 a day if it's a straightforward job. If the job is more intricate, it'll typically be 200 to 250 daily.
They do it all for any job with bricks and mortar - cutting bricks, building walls, repointing older brickwork, or building foundations.
A decent bricklayer will have public liability insurance. This protects all parties involved and the property on which the work is being carried.
The costs depend on the wall's size, but you can expect to pay anywhere between £500 and £2000. Check out this price guide if you'd like a more detailed estimate.
No, it's not good for a bricklayer to lay bricks while it's raining as it can cause efflorescence.
On average, it'll take 8 to 16 weeks to build the walls of an extension.
If you repoint an entire house, it'll cost around £3000. Check out our cost guide for a more accurate cost.
Technically, you can lay brick yourself. However, building foundations and walls is a serious job and needs to be completed correctly for structural soundness. It’s best to have a skilled professional to complete the work.
