When first making contact Brad was extremely helpful and explained the work that would need to be undertaken. This work was booked four months in advance. Brad advised that he would need to come and look at the work and also would bring a paint sample book as I had indicated I wanted him to provide the materials. On two occasions he asked me when the work was booked in for and also called me at random times which I felt was odd, I did not answer these calls. I just chalked it down to perhaps being busy and forgetful but in hindsight the first red flag. I attempted to book this in with him, which he cancelled as he said he had hurt his foot. He did not make contact and I booked this in again. He arrived at my property without the paint sample book of the paint he used and told me a customer had lost this and I should go choose the paint I wanted and he would purchase this on my behalf when it was time to do the job. He requested the deposit in the morning and I paid this in the afternoon and provided him with the colours I had chosen. He did not respond until around 2 weeks later when he send me a rather bizarre message asking me to pay the full balance up front as a customer had not paid him and he had a cashflow problem. I felt this was completely unprofessional and overstepping boundaries and I quickly said no and that I would pay this when the work was complete. Less than a week before the job was due to commence, he asked to move this to a week later because someone had cancelled, I explained this was not possible as I had arranged my week around this and this had been booked in advance (I had a cleaner booked to make sure the rooms were clean for him as well as taking time off work to be available). He said this was fine. I offered to cancel and requested my despot back but he assured me he could complete the work in the agreed time. I asked him for an invoice on two occasions, he agreed the first time that he would provide this at the end of the week because he was busy which I said was fine, this never materialised so I asked again when he then said he would provide this after the work was completed. Brad was due to attend my property for a two day job, the night before he confirmed the colours I had chosen which was a concern as he told me that once I had paid the deposit that day he would go and get my materials which was around 6 weeks before. As this was the night before, I was becoming increasingly concerned that he would turn up on time. As suspected, he sent me a message at 9.10 advising he would not be able to attend because of a 'family emergency'. I questioned whether he would still be able to get the job done in one day and he assured me he would as he had 'filler that dried in 60 minutes out of his own pocket'. I gave him the benefit of the doubt. On the day, he was again late said he was stuck in traffic and would arrive at 930 again as it was rush hour I gave him the benefit of the doubt. He did arrive at 930 and I left him to it and popped in at lunch time, all seemed ok. I went back out to give him space to do the work and received a plethora of phone calls at 245, by this point he had only been in my property for 5.5 hours and he told me that the feature wall paint was not covering the wall and he had told me to buy Delux paint and he would need to charge me for more work to rectify this. I reminded him that he did not tell me to buy delux paint and when he attended he turned up without the paint samples as a customer had lost them and told me to choose my own paint. At no point did he tell me that the brand of paint I had chosen was not great and I would have expected him to tell me this at the point of purchase when he bought the paint for me. I also reminded him that he has quoted me for two days work and had only attended for less than a day so far so I would not be paying for any extra work. He was abrupt on the phone. I made my way home, he called again an offered to use paint he had in his car. He then called me again and said he was leaving. I told him to wait as I was nearly home. I arrived at my property with my friends dad as I felt uneasy about returning home as Brad had now tried multiple times to get money from me. You could clearly see there was an issue with the paint. He said he would go back to B&Q and ask them to refund the paint and come back and paint this, now for free. I felt he had changed his tune as I had someone with me to witness the interaction. I did not agree to this and said I would speak to them. I asked how many coats he had done and he said he had done 4 coats with 30 minute intervals in between. I spoke with a number of trades people I knew as well as going back to the paint desk where the paint was from, all said that there is a 2-4 hour drying time between coats and that the defects that brad has showed me would indicate he had not allowed this amount of time between coats. This was clearly labelled on the tin also. Brad had provided deluxe brilliant white for the walls and ceiling in my bathroom and macpherson trades magnolia for my kitchen, both of which say there is a 6 hour drying time between coats and as Brad had only been in my property and he had told me he had completed 3 coats in this time this would not be physically possible. I appreciate these are just guidelines to an extent but all of this was indicating a rushed job. The magnolia and white walls clearly have not had all those coats applied as you can see defects from the wall coming through now that it has dried properly. Brad also filled in four holes in my bathroom from where an old mirror was, these were poorly completed and had sunken in indicating that the filler was still wet when painted over. Brad tried to tell me they looked like that because he thought I would be putting the mirror back up, if this was the case then why would I need the holes filling? We even had a conversation around how it's better to push the raw plugs in. The next day, I explained to Brad that I am unhappy with his work and I had spoken to multiple people who said the same thing about not leaving enough time between drying times or even that the walls had not been prepped properly which could also have left this affect on the wall, he still continued to tell me it was the paint. He offered to come back and rectify this but by this point I had lost all trust in him and advised I was not willing to pay for this work especially as he had only turned up for 5.5 hours work when he had quoted me for two days. He then tried to tell me he had left 45 mins between coats and that he had never used Valspar paint (the paint I had chosen) before despite telling me the day before when I had a witness when I questioned him over if he felt the paint I had chosen was poor then why did he buy he he told me he had used it before and 'decided to take a risk'. When I made it clear I would not be allowing him back into my property, he continued to tell me I had not spoken to a decorator, which I had as well as numerous other experienced people. I then asked him to stop communicating with me, he sent me a 'laughing emoji' and said he 'thought I was nice but I am just a scammer'. I tried to send him a text to negotiate, I calculated the cost of all the materials, as well as the day rate for one day (although he was as I say not even here for one day) and said I would asking my dads friend who is a builder to estimate how much he thinks the work completed is worth and we could negotiate a payment based on this, however, my texts did not go through and it would appear that Brad had blocked me. Over all a terrible and disappointing experience. I felt as though Brad was trying to exploit any loop hole he could to rush the job and get more money from me and each time I pushed back he became very pleasant and I felt he was trying to manipulate me and when it wasn't working he resorted to the manner in which he text me...referring to me as mate...which is wholly unprofessional. All of the excuses gave 'the dog ate my homework' impression and over all I am just confused by this whole transaction from start to finish and how I gave him the benefit of the doubt multiple times. This experience has been extremely disappointing as initial communication was positive and I had high hopes, especially with the good reviews he has on here, however I have since seen someone has had a similar experience...I am just grateful that I have people in my support network who I was able to run all of this past who work in trades who could guide me to ask the correct questions and question this job as some people do not have this.
Great job painting railings and handrails on balconies. Tidy worker and friendly. Kept me informed on date changes as job was weather dependant.
Brad was very helpful, presentable, and work tidy young man. His pricing was competitive. I am more than happy with the job he has done and would recommend giving him a try.
Brad was a very polite young man, however we felt the job was rushed. He spent a lot of time on the phone while he worked and we felt he could have been consentrating more on the job in hand. He also had to return and repaint an area and the arrangements for this were changed many times to fit around his social life. He was also helpful in moving a couple of pieces of furniture for us which we appreciated but he probably needs to mature a bit more. The more experienced painters we normally use meant waiting and in this case we wanted a small room decorated sooner. We would not have accepted his quote had that not been the case.
Fitted me in last minute to paint kitchen ceiling after plastering. First class job and left everything clean and tidy. Would definitely recommend.
Very efficient, clean and tidy. Also made a good job of the ancillary tasks like removing and restoring Venetian blinds. He communicated well and I intend to ask him to quote for future work.
Brad did an excellent job painting our room. The communication was quick and seamless, and he catered to all our specific needs with great attention to detail. His service was highly efficient, and the quality of the work exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend Brad and will definitely use his services again in the future.
