On 16/05/2026 Adam and Alan attended my property to install my television onto a swivel wall bracket. They fixed the bracket to the wall and mounted the television. After they left, I gently moved the television back towards the wall using the swivel arm as intended. At this point, the television completely detached from the wall and fell into my hands, causing large holes and significant damage to my wall. I immediately contacted Adam and Alan, and they returned to the property. Upon inspection, they stated that they could not understand how this had happened. Without my request or agreement, they then went to B&M to purchase a replacement bracket and to B&Q to purchase longer screws. When they returned, they fitted the new bracket and used the longer screws to secure the television. Once the television was mounted again and switched on, it became immediately apparent that the television had been damaged during the installation process. The screen displayed three black circles, cracking where the screws had penetrated internally, and severe colour bleeding spread across the display, rendering the television unusable. Adam and Alan apologised for the damage caused. I informed them that I would require compensation for the damaged television and the damage caused to my wall. At this point, they began speaking in another language between themselves and started leaving the property. I followed them outside and requested their insurance details so that I could pursue a claim for the damage. They informed me that their company insurance was through a company called “Fissle” and that a manager named “Ben” would deal with the claim. They provided me with a policy number and a contact telephone number. I attempted to contact the number immediately, but initially received no answer. While I was attempting to discuss the matter further and ask what steps I needed to take to pursue compensation, Adam and Alan loaded their tools into their vehicle and drove away from the property. Shortly afterwards, I received a return call from the number provided. The person I spoke with stated that they did not know who Adam, Alan, or “Ben” were, and they had no knowledge of any company or insurance policy relating to them. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, any service provided must be carried out with reasonable care and skill. The installation was clearly not completed with reasonable care and skill, resulting in damage to both my property and television. Furthermore, under the law of negligence, tradespeople and installers owe a duty of care to customers to ensure work is completed safely and competently. The failure to securely mount the television and the subsequent use of inappropriate screws directly caused damage to my property and television. I am therefore seeking full compensation for: - The replacement cost of the damaged television; - The repair costs for the wall damage caused; - Any additional associated losses resulting from the negligent installation. If this matter is not resolved promptly, I reserve the right to pursue the matter further through Trading Standards and the Small Claims Court.
