You will require a plastic mitre block designed for cutting coving with the internal and external mitre cuts marked out, a saw for cutting the coving, a pointing or gauging trowel or spatula for the adhesive and filler, coving adhesive, screws for holding the coving in place until the adhesive dries, a pencil for marking out, plus a tape measure. Before you begin, protect your floor or carpet, as cutting plaster coving can be messy. Fitting plaster coving can be awkward on your own, so it may help to have another person assist you, especially in a large room with long runs of coving. Pick a starting point and make the correct cut using the mitre block, then measure the wall to determine the length required for the next piece. Repeat this process for all runs of coving, then fix them in place using coving adhesive and, where required, screws to hold the coving until the adhesive sets. As you work your way around the room, fill any screw holes or small gaps with coving adhesive and clean off excess with your trowel or spatula.
