Thermal Insulation Contractors

Thermal insulation contractors provide a range of insulation services for both commercial and domestic properties. Commercial work can include insulation for pipework, fittings, vessels, boilers, ductwork and tanks. In homes, contractors may install loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, pipe insulation and insulation systems for solid walls.

Loft Insulation

A significant amount of heat can be lost through the roof of an uninsulated home, so adding loft insulation can help reduce heat loss and lower energy use. Some loft insulation projects can also be carried out on a DIY basis if the loft is easy to access and there are no existing damp, condensation or ventilation problems.

Mineral wool insulation is commonly installed between and over the ceiling joists. If your loft is already insulated, it may still be worth checking the depth and condition of the existing insulation before deciding whether more is needed.

Wall Insulation

Heat can also escape through external walls, particularly in homes with little or no wall insulation. The type of insulation required will depend on how the property was built.

Cavity walls are constructed with two leaves and a gap between them, while solid walls have no cavity. Many older homes have solid walls, while cavity wall construction became increasingly common during the 20th century. However, the age of a property alone does not always confirm the wall type.

Some properties, including certain timber-frame, steel-frame and prefabricated concrete homes, may require different insulation methods. An insulation contractor can assess the wall construction and explain which options may be suitable.

Loft and Cavity Wall Insulation Cost

The cost of loft insulation will depend on the size of the loft, existing insulation, access and the type of material used. As a rough guide, loft insulation for an average three-bedroom home may cost around £300.

Cavity wall insulation may cost around £350 for a terraced property and around £750 for a detached home, although prices vary depending on the size, construction and condition of the property.
