Major Internal Renovation and Porch Build
Most of the renovation was ultimately completed to an acceptable standard, and there were parts of the project I was happy with. However, the overall experience was let down by repeated delays, avoidable mistakes, incomplete finishing and a number of issues that ended up costing me extra to resolve. There were also several occasions where agreed work had to be chased repeatedly and responsibility for problems was pushed onto other trades or back onto me. My biggest disappointment was the lack of accountability when things went wrong. I always paid promptly and tried to be pragmatic to keep the project moving, but the communication, management and aftercare fell short of what I expected. Overall, a very mixed experience.

Naturally, we are disappointed with this review and do not feel it fairly reflects either the standard of the completed project or the level of support we provided throughout. This was a substantial renovation involving structural alterations and a bifold opening, conversion of the garage into a gym, fencing and a number of other works. We are extremely proud of the finished result and, throughout the project, received positive feedback regarding both the progress and quality of the work being carried out. During the renovation, we repeatedly went beyond our agreed scope of works in an effort to help the client and keep the wider project moving. A number of additional tasks were requested which were not included within our original quotation. While we were happy to accommodate reasonable additional requests where possible, it was not always possible to undertake further work outside the agreed scope without additional cost. Despite this, we provided a considerable amount of additional labour and assistance without charge. This included making good following other independently appointed trades, repeatedly reinstating and repairing flooring after it had subsequently been lifted, replacing floorboards and carrying out other remedial and finishing works that did not form part of our contracted works. Our team also spent a significant amount of time clearing waste and tidying areas following other trades, as well as arranging additional waste disposal, simply to keep the project progressing. As with many substantial renovation projects involving several separately appointed trades, there were challenges and changes along the way. Where an issue related to our work, we took responsibility and addressed it. We also regularly stepped in to assist with issues that were outside our responsibility. For that reason, we do not accept the suggestion that there was a lack of accountability or willingness to resolve problems. Unfortunately, towards the latter stages of the project there was an increasing expectation that further items outside our agreed scope should be completed without additional charge. While we always try to be flexible and helpful to our clients, there has to be a reasonable distinction between the works a contractor has been engaged and paid to undertake and additional works subsequently requested. We are pleased that the review acknowledges the renovation was successfully completed and that there were elements of the project the client was happy with. We remain extremely proud of the quality of the finished work and of the considerable additional effort our team made throughout the renovation to keep the project progressing. Scaffold Erection for Roof Access
Hired Nick to erect a scaffold and provide pigeon proofing for some existing solar panels. He got back to me quickly with a fair quote and was able to fit me in quickly. Really personable guy, easy to talk to and feels trustworthy. I was sent videos of the work as it was on the roof and it all looked great. I now have some very p**++sed off pigeons! Thanks
Replace Two Ground Floor Window Lintels
Absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. He installed two lintels for us and did an excellent job. Very honest, reliable, and took the time to explain everything clearly so we understood exactly what was being done. Friendly, polite, and professional throughout. The work was completed to a very high standard and everything was left clean and tidy afterwards. Highly recommend Nicky to anyone looking for a trustworthy tradesman.
Lay Concrete or Flagged Shed Base
Totally recommend Spectrum Construction Ltd for any of your construction jobs. They recently completed my shed base. Nick was really helpful and completed the job as I wanted. He is polite, punctual and very experienced. Considering that the task wasn't that big, he gave time, did not rush even though he had other commitments, explained and advise what he was doing and mainly worked around what I wanted and my budget. Block Up Half Of Old Window
Really pleased with the brickwork—clean, precise, and finished to a high standard. Turned up on time, worked efficiently, and kept everything tidy. Communication was clear from start to finish. Would happily recommend and use again.
Replace Soil Pipe Chamber Base
Nicky is a very nice, friendly and polite chap. His quote was pretty much what I expected to pay. He turned up exactly on time, as promised and started to dig straight away. He explained everything he was going to do and what options I have as he went along. He removed the concrete from the soil pipe inspection chamber (it’s been in there since the house was built and we don’t really know why it was put in there) and raised it slightly to improve the flow, which was next to nothing. He didn’t have to replace the chamber base and therefore he didn’t charge for a replacement (where I’m sure some would). I did say that he didn’t have put it all back tidy as I was going to block paved it all. He put everything back, tidied up and took any left over rubble away. I couldn’t recommend him more if I could. I’ll be contacting him again in the near future for more work. Thanks again Nicky and it was a pleasure to meet you.
