Good work done but probably over priced

Paul came and done an excellent job, I was so impressed I had him complete additional work and he repaired my shed roof to a high standard and guaranteed. Highly recommended trade person.

Warning to all who are thinking of employing Paul Winter & J T Roofing Solutions: He came and created a leak where we did not have one previously and is now ignoring all messages and calls and so refusing to remedy the problem he has created. Do not believe his “10 year guarantee”. In summary: - Paul and his team did substandard work that left the roof worse than it was before they started. - They attempted to pressure us into paying for substantially more expensive work (£5K) by calling us mid way through the job and telling us they were packing up tools as this needed to be done first (which it quickly became clear that it didn’t). - They rushed off site and did not clear up. - Water is now leaking directly into the property when it rains, which was not happening before. - After the first heavy rain the guttering also sagged, showing the shoddy workmanship. - Paul attempted one fix to shore up the guttering and blamed the leaks on someone else being on the roof and taking screws out, which they had not. - When the roof still leaked Paul promised to come back and then just ignore all calls and messages, leaving us with water leaking into the home and facing the costs of having to get someone else to fix the damage he has done. We originally had a generalised damp problem in the loft that we believed was caused by a lack of ventilation and suggested to Paul that we may need soffit vents and vented ridge tiles installed but we would like his assessment. We do not live at the property but have friends renting so all direct communication was via calls and messaging but our friends were able to verify what happened on site. He was initially helpful and sent pictures of what he said was damage to the leadwork around the chimney where it was pulled away from the chimney breast, which we took at face value at the time. Paul said that the leak around the chimney needed to be fixed and we agreed on that and new soffits, fascias and gutters. A price of £3,300 was agreed. Since we had originally requested ventilation in the loft we assumed the soffits would be vented, which they were not, and no additional ventilation was installed. Half way through the job we receive a call from Paul & Bobby (his business partner, I believe) stating that the back half of the roof needs to be refelted, which would be £5K, and they were packing up tools and covering the exposed areas in sheeting because they couldn’t go any further. This was a clear attempt to pressure us into paying for a much more expensive job. When I pressed them it was clear that they absolutely could do the work in such a way where any refelting could be done later. At the end of the job, our tenants reported they rushed off site and did not clear up, as agreed. Once they had been paid, Paul did not respond to any messages requesting that they go and clear up. Eventually we gave up and the tenants dealt with the clean up themselves. At the first heavy rain, the gutters sagged and water was leaking into the property inside the window wells where the double glazing meets the walls. We called Paul who came back to site and said that someone else had been on the roof and taken screws out and damaged his work. This is untrue as the two contractors who had visited to quote for the refelting, that Paul said needed doing, only looked inside the loft and did not go on the roof. At the start of the job Paul had also promised to run water over the roof to check for leaks, which did not happen. Paul ‘fixed’ the roof but at the next heavy rain the same thing happened and at this Point Paul became combative saying that we had this problem before he did his work (we did not) and trying to blame other issues. He agreed to come back and then stopped replying to messages or answering phone calls. They have left us with shoddily installed guttering, a leaking roof that they caused and a significant bill to have someone else come and fix their mess. Avoid at all costs.

Very helpful and friendly, seemed to know his stuff. I would consider for future or bigger jobs.

Called me straight away to book a time to take pictures and provide me with a quote for the job. The next day the job was completed.
