I wish I could attach photos, because they speak for themselves. Extremely shoddy work – he has left me with huge problems (wall completely globbed with a big bulging rough patch he said he would sand down and another wall that is so lumpy it looks no better than Artex, amongst other smaller but not insignificant problems). In addition, he neglected to put corner beading where it was necessary. He said this was because you could not put corner beading in these places - but this does not make sense because he put corner beading on one window and not another identical window in the same room, for example, or on one leg of an L shape and not the other. He also put plasterboard on so it extended beyond the door frame and now the joiner cannot make it work - I find it hard to believe that a plasterer shouldn’t have this basic knowledge, but even if he didn’t, the joiner was there on site - he could’ve collaborated with him to make sure the work he was doing would contribute rather than impede. Even though we were under time pressure, 3 days out of 7 he took off after lunch to run an errand, then came back, did an hour’s cleaning and prep and left before 2pm. While not ideal, they seemed to be making good progress so that didn’t bother me - not until he asked for extra money at the end because he’d had to do “so much extra work”! Counting the half days (not to mention the short-ish regular days), they actually put in a day less than projected, so I’m not sure how time-consuming all the extra work was! I was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, but now he has not come back to finish the job as he had promised. He delayed three days to do that and when that day arrived, he cancelled and promised me he would come 2 days later. Two days later, he did not show up at all and he will not answer messages or phone calls. I stupidly bought his assurances (he really gives a convincing impression of being someone who cares) and paid him before the final pass, accepting his promise that he would come back to tweak these things. Big mistake, obviously.
