Internal Layout Change and Plaster Work
Avoid at all costs. One of the worst decisions I could have made was taking Jack on for a large project at my house. Besides for turning what he said was a "two week job" into a 3 month ordeal, begging me to get every single cent out of the job before it was finished, Jack managed to fail on every task that he promised and has/will cost me more than the original job (well over 10k). Ignoring the fact that he was smoking in the house and smoking marijuana on site every day, got locked up and had the police over, these are what he failed on in case you decide to hire him: Charged me to basically re-do my entire bathroom and left me with uneven tiles (5mm difference in some), had leaks in the shower tiles (once stepped on water came out), chipped every single one of my cladding panels for the shower because he cut them incorrectly (a thosand pounds worth of panels that he had me buy because it was easier to install), cut the wrong side of one of the panels so the pattern didnt match then proceeded to cut the other side of the panel which meant one of the panels was sortera than the others and coming up with some crazy ways to hide it, shoddy silicone, paid him to move a door which he then plastered up the old door and left a hole in the wall another wall which I guess he considered "moving a door" - the hole he left wasn't even a standard size door that you can buy so ive had to adjustable that too and chipped the brand new mirror I got. Had someone come in a re-do the bathroom and they honestly felt so bad that I paid someone to do that that they gave me a discount. That's all just the bathroom. Paid him to level the floor in my bedroom which he left uneven - worse than before. Paid him to re-floor the entire house where in some places he left such big gaps between where the flooring ends and the slirting is supposed to begin that not even beading will cover it. Also broke multiple joints on the flooring that now when you step on the laminated flooring it bends and falla lower than the adjacent flooring. Left gaps between the flooring. Left self leveling compound on my skirting board. Left multiple leaks on my radiators. Multiple places unpainted and where he did paint he did the landlord special where he just painted over everything and anything - paint is so thin at some points that it can be wiped off using a cloth. His trade is electrician and yet somehow ive been left with a light that doesn't work and a short between my neutral and earth. Also had two sockets that he had installed that weren't connected into anything. Lastly (excluding all the small things), Jack left a 12yard skip with of rubbish at my house. Reading this over it sounds ridiculous like I'm someone making things up over a personal vendetta, but I promise this all genuinely happened. Save yourself the headache and go with anyone else even if they come in at double the price.
Replace Sinking Floorboards in Toilet
Jack was able to attend on same day to provide a fair assessment of work required and provide a reasonable quote. The job was completed within 2 days, keeping me informed throughout as the landlord.
