I would never hire anyone unless they give a written quote because my mental health I wasn't switched on, Craig never gave a written quote what job he going to do,before starting the job he ask for £300 for materials, I don't know why he wanted that amount because I was paying for the paint myself, turned up at day late different time than arranged, ask for remaining £240 before starting the job, could only give £200 need £40 for shoping, instead of waiting for the paint to dry before applying special coat of paint original paint was still coming though, he got the skirting paint on the main wall,made a mess of my mural didn't put it in the centre of the wall and it wasn't lined up then said I would have to wait a whole week before he can finish off the rest of the job, then he said was try contact since 15th what was not true as I was with my neighbour and the phone never went off, he asked for another £300 to finish off the job, accused me I only wanted two walls done that's why he was charging me more to paint the rest of the lounge, with deposit and what I paid him £540 i said don't want him to finish off the job, since then he's been texting me for the £40 I'm saying that he's going to come around my flat to get the money, never recommend him to anyone
High Spec FinishesHello Michael I asked for £200 upfront for materials then you gave me 300 then 210 the day I started and I did say I would be able to get your wallpaper for free but as it was an actual picture I was able to get you a vynal picture that would cover the whole wall but I couldn't get it for free so I went ahead and got it for you and asked for cut price as I knew you didn't have the money so in the end you said you wouldn't of gone with the idea so I said ok not a problem I'll sell the picture and come and finish the wall and I also said I was going to do the ceiling cracks and other decorating and wasn't charging you as doing a mural what you wanted normally costs more than what I charged and as I couldn't finish the job I lost out on rest of my money when all I was doing was trying to help. I came 50min away to your job.
Bedroom Ceiling and Window Decor
Mr Donnelly promised to do a complete paint job in the guest bedroom, re-paper the ceiling and remove mould from the window area - and to do so in no more than one week. I advised a tight timeline, with my wife returning from a stay in hospital. He not only promised meeting the deadline but assured me all would be done professionally and would be no more than £550-£600 max, to include materials. He did expect two increments of £300 each in advance towards material and hiring a labourer to assist him. I reluctantly agreed, and that soon appeared to be a big mistake. While Mr Donnelly started the work, he quickly fell behind with sub-standard efforts, his labourer (never seen) allegedly backed out, to be replaced by his father. Donnelly cancelled two subsequent appointments, blaming a breakdown of his car. When he returned, with his father, already past the week he promised to do the job, he made a half-hearted effort and stopped, saying the weather was too hot-but also saying he needed more paint and materials for at least two coats of paint and sealant for the ceiling (itself poorly started), requested a further £425. I naively agreed, but did so where the clock was ticking on my wife’s return, and with her condition, she was obliged to have the facilities of the guest room, rather then the main bedroom. The inevitable happened -more excuses were made, and Mr Donnelly did not come back, despite my payments, and my wife returned. He initially replied to my text, lying about coming back when it suited me, until the replies stopped. Meanwhile, the guest room looked shoddy and Mr Donnelly effectively absconded with more than £1,000 of my money, making it difficult for my wife and her carers. In the end, my wife passed away six weeks later, and it was in the undignified circumstances of a room I had striven to refurbish to help make her more comfortable. Letting Donnelly know had no effect: he has stolen my money and, knowing that I am grieving for the loss of my wife, must surely doubt I will pursue him.
