Remove Artex and Smooth Walls
I would strongly caution anyone considering hiring Jamal Francis for plastering work. I hired him in April to carry out plastering work at my property and unfortunately the experience was extremely disappointing from start to finish. The quality of the work was poor and the job was not completed to an acceptable standard. He did not strip all the wallpaper, leaving half stripped wallpaper by the windows and behind the radiators and left gaps in other areas, making the work look cheap and shoddy. Plaster was left on curtains in both the living room and bathroom, plaster was splashed onto surfaces that did not require any work, leaving stains throughout the property, and excess plaster was left around light fittings to the extent that some fixtures could no longer be reinstalled properly because they no longer fit. It was only after I had started painting that I realised I would not be able to get the lights to fit back on. He also damaged the floor and the walls, which I sent images of to him but he did not acknowledge I was also charged significantly more than expected for materials and, despite raising concerns afterwards, I was refused a refund for what I believe were excessive material costs. In addition, Jamal agreed to remove waste materials from the property but failed to do so, leaving me to deal with the mess and excess materials myself after the work had finished. Perhaps most concerning was his behaviour throughout the job. As a young woman living alone, I found a number of his comments entirely inappropriate and unprofessional. These included remarks such as "naughty girl", "I'll be the perfect son-in-law for your mum", "I'm old enough to be your daddy", and "I thought you were 16". These comments made me feel extremely uncomfortable and unsafe in my own home. Communication was also a constant issue. He would frequently promise to attend at certain times and then leave me waiting for hours without explanation. He was rude and disrespectful when concerns were raised, including swearing at both me and my mother. To make matters worse, he kept hold of my keys for approximately two weeks after the work was completed, causing additional stress and inconvenience. The overall experience left me feeling taken advantage of, particularly as I was relying on his expertise and trusted him to carry out the work professionally. Instead, I was left with incomplete and poor-quality workmanship, damage to my property, inappropriate behaviour, unresolved disputes over costs, and a considerable amount of stress. I did not call him out as being a young person who was working alone, I worried that pulling him up on his comments would cause potential harm to me or the property - especially as he had my only set of keys. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this tradesman and would urge others to carry out thorough checks before hiring him. I have photographic evidence to prove my statements
