Replace Concrete Driveway With Tarmac
Dean came to visit us the day the job went live and spent some time advising us of what would be done. He measured up and was able to give us a price for the job. He advised us what would be done, I.e. digging out to accomodate 100mm of stone foundation, a further 75mm of load bearing tarmac with a further 75mm of top (surface) finish and three days to complete all work. An agreed date for starting the work was made, with a phone call made the day before commencement to say it would be at 9.00am. As it happened the team arrived and started work 45 minutes earlier. Lifting and removal of the uneven paving slabs started at once. Stone chippings arrived for the afternoon which were laid straight onto the revealed sand and earth from under the paving stones. The following day, again early, the team arrived and started spreading tarmac. One layer laid somewhat unevenly and not to sufficient depth to bring it up to the levels of the previous paving stones. Unfortunately someone had miscalculated on the amount of top tarmac required requiring a second delivery of tarmac to fill in the missing almost 2 metres of the drive. Once this was done (one day earlier than predicted and other contractors had predicted ) and all tools were loaded into their vehicles, Dean's father(?), a huge man, knocked and requested instant payment. I was not able to check the workmanship prior to making payment or getting the 7 year guarantee that had been agreed. The big man (HTW Bower) told me to see Dean about that. Two email requests to Dean over the following weeks failed to get a response. My advice to anybody considering involving these people in any work, would be to get everything agreed and in writing and monitor the work as it proceeds.
