Please stay away from this company, it’s not legit. Ben took £732 from us and never did the job, nor did he return the money. I’ll share here all the information so that everyone can be aware of the type of scheme this person is running. Ben came to discuss the job and sent me a quote via email and WhatsApp (which I accepted) for a total of £932 (£432 materials and £500 labour). The job included ordering the materials, removing an old fence and replacing it with a new fence in our back garden. Ben asked for £432 to be paid in advance for the materials + £300 for extra initial costs (total £732) and then agreed to start the work 4 days later. At this point, Ben started delaying the work blaming that the company where he had ordered the materials (a shop called Norbury in Hertford) was experiencing delays and Ben kept promising he would complete the job as soon as possible. I called Norbury, they said they had no order under his name nor were they experiencing any delays (as Ben had supposedly suggested). I then called out Ben on this and he said that he had to order via another ‘third party’ company but he never provided the name of the company nor the proof of the order despite me asking for them. Ben never delivered the materials, nor did he do the job. After over two months of chasing him and all the stress this caused us, we decided to open a fraud case with the police and our bank. We have so much overwhelming evidence that the bank has agreed to refund some of the money. We now have an open case with Action Fraud. Please stay away from this company, they are just running a scam and if you google Ben and look at reviews, you will find out that he has run the same scam before using other platforms.

Just to clarify, the work quality was very good and I’m very happy with the work Ben has done. There is no denying he is hard working. We agreed a price before the job, 50% prior to the job starting and 50% on completion. The day after the work started Ben asked for more money which did raise questions but as he was doing a good job I let it go. He then claimed the supplier for the redwood which was going on the front of the shed was out of stock and could not return his money for 10 days. I called the supplier and they had the stock, I questioned Bens order and they told me they had no order. Ben told me he would get proof of it but till this day I have not been sent it after requesting it. To get the job finished before I went away that week I agreed to pay for the rest of the materials from the other place with no stock, and told him the approx balance which would leave me out of pocket if I did this and would need it returned once he gets the refund. This was agreed. After finishing Ben has claimed the extra I had paid couldn’t returned in the left over materials of redwood. However as I fronted all the materials 100% and his labour prior to completion, I don’t think that’s fair to say the balance is in materials and believe the balance is owed. I offered to forget the balance if I could get proof of the redwood order but to this day haven’t been sent it. He has offered to take the balance off additional work and offered solutions such as rubbish disposal which is appreciated but out of principal I won’t be doing any further work with Ben which is a shame as his a good guy and does mean well, something just didn’t add up with this job.

Absolutely outstanding service. Ben was super friendly and flexible. Clear on quotes and what work was to be done. Prices were excellent and work was completed at great speed. Will absolutely be recommending to everyone and using Costain Carpentry & Building again.

Ben was excellent, he was very professional, had good manners and was a joy to have him In my home, he even let my 9 year old daughter help him a little that made her day, absolutely fantastic work, will definitely recommend and will definitely use Ben in the future.
