Very friendly and thorough job done

    Flat Roof

Jamie quoted us a good price for replacing a flat roof above a bay window, offering a new felt roof on the back of a survey suggesting we might have an issue with standing water. To his credit, he came as arranged, completed the job quickly and cleaned up any mess. Jamie also gave us a written receipt and a written '10 year guarantee' for the work, after requesting this from him. However, the quality of the work was clearly quite poor (even on visual inspection) with unevenly cut edges and layers of felt applied over one another in highly visible areas, but we give him the benefit of the doubt and assumed the overall performance would be fine. Three days after Jamie had finished with the roof, we had heavy rain and noticed leaking to the roof coming into our lounge. We rang Jamie and again, to his credit, he offered to come out straight away and take a look. As it was the evening, he couldn't locate a fault, and placed a sheet over the roof to slow the leak and offered to come back in the morning. The next day Jamie noticed that a large portion of our brick mortar had been removed when he had removed the old roof flashing. We're not sure how this was missed when he first did the job, but again, he offered to re-point the brickwork whilst my wife and I were at work. I text him during the day asking how the work was going, and he replied 'All sorted'. When I returned from work, I noticed that the mortar had been applied very poorly, with a lot of mess spilling onto our wall. We also noticed that the felt was now detached from the roof on one side, and that there were various grey rubber blobs on the roof suggesting various patch repairs were made. I text back immediately and asked what was happening with the roof, as it clearly no longer looked weatherproof and the quality of the pointing was unacceptable. Jamie assured me he was always planning on coming back to apply new felt to the area where it had detached (despite his earlier 'All sorted' text). Jamie did not return to fix the roof the next day, and at this point, occasionally stopped replying to texts or answering his phone when my wife or I rang. We did manage to get through to him by using a different number! He promised multiple times to fully correct the roof, and failed to come each time he said he would with varying excuses. We gave Jamie close to 4 weeks to come and finish/rectify the job, but he never appeared. In that time, we had a weekend of very heavy rain, which led to a second substantial leak which has damaged our internal walls and carpet. At this point we contacted other roofers for a new quote to complete the job. Several roofers have since seen the work and could not believe the state of the roof, describing it as some of the worst work they have ever seen. Jamie had not properly fixed the flashing back into our wall, and had simply applied this to the brick face directly. He had also failed to fix down the new OSB board to the roof structure itself, and had not bothered to lay the new roof to a fall as we had originally requested. This is on top of the poor workmanship with the felting in general. We have recorded evidence of all of Jamie's poor workmanship, including the damage caused by the second substantial leak, and will be reporting him to the appropriate authorities.
