Potential customers — beware. While the initial work seemed competent, the overall service was disturbingly unprofessional. You may be better off with a reliable family-run business in Colchester. I called Scaf Plumbing in October after my boiler began shutting off. The engineer arrived promptly, replaced leaking pipework, fitted a new pump, and issued a service certificate. All seemed fine. By late November, the boiler developed the same issue again — intermittent shutdowns with a new visible internal leakage. The original engineer was abroad and slow to respond, eventually sending someone who surely wasn't competent for a gas boiler fix (he struggled to open the boiler butter shell). With no respect for seriousness that the situation demanded, he joked about the boiler (installed in 2014) being “older than him,” told me to replace it, couldn’t find the source of the leak, and shrugged off responsibility. When I asked why none of this was raised two months earlier, he replied (not kidding, verbatim): “It’s like a car — sometimes it works, sometimes it stops working.” I was left aghast. The original engineer has since stopped responding. I’m now bringing in another Gas Safe engineer and will be reporting the matter to the Gas Safe Register. Mistakes happen, but the way this company handled them was deeply disappointing.

Silavau was very responsive and came promptly to inspect the issue. Although there was some initial miscommunication, it was resolved quickly and the repair was completed efficiently. The only drawback was that he forgot to provide me with a receipt afterward.

The heating engineer (Silviu) diagnosed the issue (a blocked/scaled-up heat exchanger), sourced the part and installed it within a couple of days of accepting the job. Hot water now flows uninterrupted once again. At each juncture, Silviu took the time to explain the issue and its causes and potential problems with other components within the boiler. These were explained in layman’s terms and was reassuring to understand what was actually happening within the boiler, and any future remedial actions needed. Top job.

Careful examination of system found problem a did temporary solution by price on phone £60 did not mention VAT which was charged also job spun out to run into next hour by 5 minutes for another £60! So bill was nearly £150. Not excessive for emergency plumber but if so could wait it would have been much less. Also I was pushed into paying by a dubious method although I think it turned out alright but my card details are on his phone!

Fantastic and quick service. Provided feedback on the condition of the boiler and helped me with a tap and plug repair.
