I am very disappointed with the work carried out by Mike, but more disappointed that he chosen to not make any contact or come back and rectify the problems. When he came to quote for the job he was really nice, polite and friendly, and throughout. He came across as very knowledgeable and was keen to take the job, and said it was something he could do. He said he had carried out lots of these kind of jobs, and even knew the procedure for making a claim and dealing with the insurers. After further discussion, I had expressed to him that while having the bathroom replaced, I would like it remodelled. Take out the bath and have just a shower cubicle. Mike said he could carry out the change. We discussed what I wanted and he said he could give me the remodelled bathroom I wanted. I paid him £2,000 deposit. From the start there were delays and no-shows, and when he did turn up it was never for more than 2 days in a row. I was understanding of the problems he was having, and continued to be patient, in order to have the bathroom I wanted. Eventually after 3 months, he said he had finished. I went into the bathroom with him and at first glance, the fixtures and fittings looked really good, and the flooring looked nice, but it was in no way the new bathroom I was expecting. He had simply fitted a toilet, basin and shower, definitely not the showroom standard sparkling bathroom I expected to step into and use immediately. There was lots of work left to do; re-fitting the lights, painting the ceiling and walls, fitting the blind. I did not expect to pay for a new bathroom and have to carry out decorating and fit things myself. He asked for the remainder of the money, by the end of the day as it was balance on completion. However, once he had left and I had the chance to look more closely at the work, I could see some things that I was very unhappy with. I contacted Mike with pictures of the things, that stood out straight away. Trim cut short, silicone thick and rough. Old sections of skirting he had removed, replaced wonky and badly. It was awful and I told him. He said he would come back and put right the things I was unhappy with. He said to pay the balance but hold back £200 until he had fixed the problems. I paid him £2,600. Again, he had reasons for not being able to come back and after another 5 weeks, he has not been in touch. Since using the bathroom, it has become apparent, that there are other problems with the bathroom. I have had to have other workmen in to try to rectify the problems, some of which cannot be put right. The shower cubicle leaked and damaged the floor. The edges of the flooring had been filled with thick badly applied silicone to cover up that it was cut too short all along the edge. The wall panels have all been cut, badly, and fitted incorrectly, and again covered up with thick bumpy badly applied silicone. It has cost me way more than the £200 he told me to hold back. It seems like he was ok to forgo the £200, and he had no intention of coming back.
