This company doesn't have a clue. They were coming to put a 'normal' style flat rubber roof onto our conservatory. After various issues I contacted the council building control officer and was informed this is the wrong roof for a conservatory as it depends on the foundations and structure of the building. Matthew Jenkins should have known this.... being a "roofer". He quoted £3260 of which we had to pay £1,304.00 deposit, to put on a new roof part of which was "add new structural timbers to the existing ones to support the new flat rubber roof above". However, when he came took off the roof, he then said the "joists" was too rotten so he had to replace everything. So, for this pleasure he added another £1400 on. I did inform him it was all in the initial quote but he said he was only going to replace a couple. We got him down to £1200 so paid him an extra £480 extra deposit. He then turned up the next day he then said the frame around / on top of the patio door was not good so it needed an RSJ and we needed to get a structural engineer out. We said we were not paying out anymore. He was going to leave us without any roof, as it had been completely removed. He then placed the OSB boards on top of some long lengths of wood, which were going to be used as joists, my husband had to finish with covering gaps to the weather by putting tarpaulin on top. However, we also found out he was using 11mm OSB, when regulations state min 18mm. The joists were the wrong size and not “green”. So as said at the beginning the structure was not suitable for the type of roof he was putting on. As we had paid out over £1784, we asked for money back and was told no he had bought the items so they were now ours, we said with him being a “roofer” surely, he would have more use of them than us, but he refused. So completely wrong materials intending to be used and ripped us off.
