Job is done but with a non matching part (due to previous fitter of the tile) I asked him to come Tuesday morning and he said he was passing Monday (bank holiday) and would pop in. Before we knew a part was needed (he said it should be £10-20, £70 was agreed. Ben diagnosed it on the Monday and I paid the £70 in good faith that I would also then pay for whatever part he bought to clip on the following day. The next day he then charged me £90 for the part and the fitting. He had already left and sent the price on whatsapp with his bank details. I queried what the breakdown was, he said 30+vat part, 45+vtat labour. I questioned why I had paid £70 for him to just come look at the job the previous day, countless traders do it for free so they know what they actually need as a part. I also mentioned it makes no sense as he charges 45+ vat per hour for labor but charged me 70 for standing in my loft for 5 mins. He then said it was bank holiday hourly rate despite me not asking him to come a bank holiday, he offered as he was passing. Would never use again, lacked any transparency of pricing after the initial £70 to secure the job. Also not heard before a tradesman on here charging £70 so just see what part they need before leaving 5 mins later.
