Summary: We were repeatedly lied to, left with unfinished work many weeks after the job was meant to be finished, and they stopped answering calls. We had to get another company to finish the work. Detail: Nikolov Builders seemed very pleasant and quoted a reasonable rate for: - painting 3 smaller rooms - removing wallpaper plastering and painting a larger room. We had a dealine for completing the work before we moved into our house, which they claimed they could meet "no problem". They asked for 40% of the cost upfront, 40% half way through and the final 20% at the end. Because of this pay structure they completed the easiest "half" of the work: painting three rooms, said they were half way through and then they had 80% of our money. Then Nikolov Builders took guys off of our job to do other work and became increasingly unresponsive. The first warning sign was when they forgot we had agreed to remove wallpaper before painting. As we were approaching our moving date I repeatedly called as the workers had stopped showing up, and I knew the job was at risk of not being finished on time. When they returned my calls I was reassured multiple times that it would be finished before our move. It wasn't. Their excuse was the weather had slowed the plaster drying and that, having seen the quality of the plaster finish they decided it needed another coat. We had to move our posessions into a room full of dust and debris. When we moved in we discovered they had plastered OVER the wallpaper leaving a mess of bubbly plaster, and plaster falling off the wall. Stupidly we persevered and tried to get them to make it right. When I complained about the plastering over the wallpaper they acted surprised despite previously saying they'd seen the plaster which was very clearly over wallpaper (you could see our paint tests through it). I asked him to come to the house and discuss the plan and on Friday they claimed they would fix it, starting again on Saturday and be finished by Tuesday. They were very reassuring but once again they were lying. The wallpaper (and new plaster) was partly removed, but again the next day the tradesman stopped showing up to work, no-showing Monday-Wednesday. On Monday a workman arrived at my unfinished living room to pick up paint and take it to another job! At this point they have stopped answering the phone entirely leaving us with a house full of dust and debris. We're using another company to finish the work.
