  • What Types Of Boilers Are Available In 2018

When choosing which boiler would be the best for your circumstances the two most important factors are the type of boiler and the manufacturer. If your existing boiler is 10 years old or more then a brand new energy efficient model could save you over £300 per year. There are three main types of boilers available today which are combination boilers, convention boilers and system boilers.

Combination boilers provide heating and hot water directly from the boiler itself without a water tank. Combination boilers are cheap to install as there is less pipework, plus they are highly energy efficient. The most reliable and efficient combi boiler brands are Vaillant, Viessmann, Baxi and Worcester-Bosch.

Conventional boilers require a cold water storage tank usually in the lofts along with an expansion tank to maintain the heating system water level. It takes up a lot of space and work better in larger homes with more than two bathrooms. The best conventional boiler brands are Grant, Ideal, Vaillant, Worcester-Bosch and Viessmann.

System boilers still need a cylinder for storing the hot water but the main heating and hot water components are built directly into the boiler so you don’t need a tank in your loft. However with system boilers you don’t get hot water instantly like a combination boiler and the water can run out. System boilers work well in homes with two or more bathrooms and are economical to run. The best brands for system boilers are Grant, Vaillant, Viessmann and Worcester-Bosch.

The most popular type of boiler in the UK by far is the combination boiler which is also referred to as the combi boiler. Combination boilers can be gas, electric or oil fired plus they provide unlimited hot water on demand at mains pressure. They are also very compact and do not use up a lot of space in the home. In addition, they almost eliminate the risks of frozen pipework in the loft.

When it comes to buying a new boiler, the price is important, but you should not choose a new heating system on price alone. A boiler supplies your home with all the hot water and heating you need 365 days a year so the quality of the boiler is incredibly important as is the warranty.

Modern boilers are well engineered and reliable as long as you stick to the top brands such as Baxi, Vaillant, Worcester-Bosch, Vokera and Viessmann. Good boiler manufacturers will offer a warranty off between 2 and 10 years but remember to keep the Warranty valid you will need to have the boiler serviced annually by a professional gas safe engineer. You must also register the boiler you have purchased with the manufacturer soon after the installation do not rely on the gas engineer to register the boiler, always check with the manufacturer a few weeks after the installation to make sure you are registered on their system and can, therefore, make warranty claims.
